Having your home professionally cleaned greatly reduces the stress and hassle of having to do it yourself and saves you countless hours, but if you don’t pick the right cleaning team then you might end up causing yourself more stress in the long term. Not all cleaners offer the same quality cleaning and some are much more reliable and efficient than others, so before you schedule your next clean ask yourself ‘is my cleaner DCA-approved?’
Who Are The DCA?
The Domestic Cleaning Alliance (also known as the DCA) is the trade association representing the domestic cleaning industry. We carry out this important responsibility on behalf of the British Cleaning Council but also on behalf of all reputable UK cleaning companies, and their clients, who benefit from our efforts.
In order to become a member of our Alliance, a cleaning team must first prove that they are honest, reliable, and entirely trustworthy. Our industry currently has no governing agency and does not benefit from the same regulations as other sectors, which can lead to uninsured, disreputable companies working without the relevant client protections. One of the best ways for a cleaning company to distinguish itself in this unregulated sector is to become a member and here’s what they have to be in order to meet the high standards that we set for our applicants.
1. Fully Insured
Our members must hold full public liability insurance and be able to provide evidence of their coverage upon request. We also strongly advise them to research the other insurance options available to them and take out the policies that are most relevant to their business.
2. Registered with HMRC
If a business is not a limited company then we require them to provide us with proof that they are registered with HMRC.
3. Committed to Client Care
The DCA continually strives to increase the profile and reputation of the domestic cleaning company, and we expect our members to do the same by demonstrating their commitment to customer service and client satisfaction in everything they do.
Requiring our members to be fully insured and registered with HMRC is how we maintain industry standards and protect our members in this otherwise unregulated sector.
How Can I Check that My Cleaning Team is DCA-Approved?
If you’ve decided that it’s safer to go for a DCA-approved cleaner rather than trying to find one by yourself, then there are several ways to make sure that the service provider you choose is approved by us.
- Meet Our Members: In order for any cleaning company to legitimately use our name or logo, they have to be listed on this page.
- Our Corporate Members: We also offer a tier of membership for companies that are not primarily service providers, but are involved in the cleaning industry, and all of our Full Corporate Members and Advanced Corporate Members are listed on our Corporate Membership page.
- DCA Certificate: Our members are issued with a DCA certificate upon acceptance of their application and we recommend asking your cleaner to produce this certificate as evidence of their membership.
